Cissè: 'I joined Lazio for France'

Djibril Cissè says he joined Lazio “to win back my place in the France squad by testing myself against Europe’s top defences.”

The former Liverpool striker completed his move from Panathinaikos this week for around €6m.

“Serie A is one of the best Leagues in the world, so I’m eager to discover it and test myself against Europe’s top defences,” he told L’Equipe.

“We will have a super squad at Lazio and this new experience is a great challenge for me. I’ll be taking on some stronger defences than I am accustomed to, so I’m curious to see how I do.”

Cissè was a mainstay of the France side, but has fallen out of favour despite a strong scoring record at Panathinaikos.

"I had two excellent campaigns in Greece, but evidently that was not enough. I know how good I am and what I want.

"I’m not dead yet for France. Laurent Blanc knows Serie A well and he wants strikers who can score in the top Leagues. I’m here at Lazio to win back my place in the France squad.”

Franse bond en ex-coach Domenech schikken

De voorzitter van de Franse voetbalbond (FFF) Noël Le Graët heeft bekendgemaakt dat er een schikking is getroffen tussen de bond en Raymond Domenech. Daarmee is de slepende kwestie afgerond.

De voormalig bondscoach van het land krijgt een schadevergoeding van 975.000 euro voor zijn ontslag. Hij moest vertrekken na het voor Frankrijk dramatisch verlopen WK 2010.

"Hiermee is het dossier Domenech afgesloten", laat een opgeluchte Le Graët weten. "Hij doet ook afstand van de 150.000 euro aan premies. Dit is een uitstekende beslissing voor de FFF, ik ben heel tevreden met dit akkoord."

Domenech moest na het voor Frankrijk desastreuze WK in Zuid-Afrika opstappen. Hij werd wegens wangedrag ook ontslagen als lid van de technische adviesraad van de FFF, een functie die hij sinds 1993 uitoefende.

Domenech aanvaardde zijn ontslag echter niet en eiste aanvankelijk een schadevergoeding van 2,9 miljoen euro.
