AC Cesena #1 Na 19 jaar weer in de Serie A

Na de tweede promotie op rij is AC Cesena na 19 jaar in de lagere divisies gespeeld te hebben weer teruggekeerd in de Serie A. De nieuwe trainer Massimo Ficcadenti (opvolger van de naar Cagliari vertrokken Pierpaolo Bisoli) mag gaan proberen om de "Cavallucci Marini" in de Serie A te houden.

Clubgeschiedenis

Founded in 1940, Cesena reached Serie B in 1968 and were promoted to Serie A for the first time in 1973. With players such as Pierluigi Cera and Gianluigi Savoldi, the club held its own and finished a respectable 11th place in their debut season, repeating that finish the following year. In 1975-76, Cesena surprised everybody by finishing 6th and qualifying for the UEFA Cup. The glory was short-lived and they would be relegated the next year. A second promotion to Serie A followed in 1981 and finished a respectable 10th before being relegated once more in 1983, staying in Serie B for four years. After winning a play-off, they were back in Serie A for 1987-88 and enjoyed a four-year stay, being obdurate enough to just avoid relegation in this time. After relegation in 1991, Cesena had another chance to return to Serie A in 1994. With players such as Alessandro Teodorani, Emiliano Salvetti, Luigi Piangerelli, Aldo Dolcetti and Dario Hübner, this was a team of considerable ability. However, they finished level on points with Padova, and lost a promotion play-off which would be a bitter blow for the club, who would suffer relegation to Serie C1 in 1997. Whilst promotion followed, a relegation play-off against Pistoiese in 2000 would see them condemned to a four-year stay in the third division. In the 2005–06 Serie B league, Cesena surprisingly emerged as contenders for promotion to Serie A, ending in sixth place and being therefore qualified for the promotion playoffs. They escaped relegation the following season, but not in 2007–08. Cesena first campaign in Serie C1, now rebranded Lega Pro Prima Divisione, started with former Foligno boss Pierpaolo Bisoli as new head coach. Throughout the season, Cesena quickly emerged as major contenders for direct promotion, and managed to take first place in the league on Week 33, with only one game remaining and a two-point advantage to challengers Pro Patria. On the final week of the season, Cesena's 0–0 draw with Verona, coupled with Pro Patria's 0–0 draw with Padova, gave the bianconeri the league title and direct promotion back to Serie B, after only one season in the Italian third tier.[Cesena went to as 3rd in Round 33 1 point behind Brescia in 2009-10 season. Cesena made second consecutive promotion after a 1-0 winning at Piacenza and Brescia's 2-1 loss at Padova against Padova in May 30, 2010 and finished 19 years of absence from Serie A after finishing Serie B as runner-up.

Hun stadion is bijna on-Italiaans, doet meer Engels aan.

Op de transfermarkt vooral in de breedte versterkt, maar of ze uiteindelijk voldoende kwaliteit bij de 1e 16 hebben zeg maar, valt zeer te betwijfelen.
Wel leuke wedstrijden in het vooruitzicht met b.v. Bologna zo.

Stephen Appiah joins Cesena Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has joined newly-promoted Italian Serie A side Cesena from rivals Bologna. The 28-year-old signed a one-year deal with the option of another year if the club stays in the top flight. “I’m happy with the agreement with Cesena because they showed how much they wanted me to join them when we started negotiating,” Appiah said. “It’s a new start for me although it’s still in Italy. They have a project which I’m happy to be part of. I’ve met the management of Cesena and assured them I’ll give it 100%.” Appiah, who played for the Black Stars at the World Cup in June, left Bologna last month after just six months due to differences over a new contract. Despite failing to extend his contract with Bologna, Appiah is grateful to the club for giving him the opportunity to revive his career after a long injury lay-off. “I’d like to thank the management, players and supporters of Bologna for giving me a chance to get back into football after my long absence. It wasn’t easy but they gave me a chance and although I didn’t feature much for them, they allowed me to get back into the swing of things.” Cesena is the sixth Italian club Appiah has signed for, having also played for Udinese, Parma, Brescia, Juventus and Bologna. The only club outside Italy the Black Stars captain has played for is Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Hearts of Oak in Ghana. He fell out with Fenerbahce after a botched knee surgery and the Turkish giants reported him to Fifa for abandoning his contract. The world governing body ruled in favour of Fenerbahce last year but CAS overturned the decision two months ago which allowed the midfielder to move to Cesena as a free agent.

Cesena challenge for Finn Saturday 14 August, 2010 Newly-promoted Cesena are battling Wigan and Maccabi Haifa for Finnish international Roni Porokara, it’s reported. The 26-year-old currently plies his trade for Swedish side Orebro SK and can play both as a winger and a wide attacker. He had already been set to join Maccabi Haifa in January for €0.7m, but the deal fell through. Maccabi would like to give him another go, but face competition this summer from both Cesena and Wigan Athletic.

Na de goede start zakt Cesena (zoals viel te verwachten) enigszins weg. Na de nederlaag van afgelopen weekend thuis tegen Napoli nu in het Friuli met 1-0 van Udinese verloren. Er viel op zichzelf weinig af te dingen op de nederlaag, maar aangezien die pas in de derde minuut van de blessuretijd tot stand kwam is het wel een zure.

De negatieve reeks heeft zich doorgezet. Uit de laatste drie wedstrijden slechts 1 punt gepakt en in de beker uitgeschakeld door Novara.

Verder is Dellafiore overgekomen van Parma in een 50/50 deal.

Parolo plays waiting game

Cesena revelation Marco Parolo doesn’t expect his future to be resolved until the middle of next month.

Parolo has just completed his first season in the Italian top-flight which ended in Cesena surviving the drop and the player breaking into the Italy squad.

The midfielder, who is part owned with Chievo, is now expected to move on with numerous clubs associated with his swoop.

“I think that one of the two clubs that own me will buy me outright,” Parolo told Mediaset. “And then if I am sold on then that probably won’t happen until mid-July.

“I can say that I have received interest from a few foreign clubs, but it is still a little too soon to be talking about these things.

“I can’t mention any names, but I can say that they are from the Premier League, La Liga and the Bundesliga.”

In Italy, it is understood that Genoa and Fiorentina are very keen.

“That is what I am told, but neither of those clubs have yet spoken to my agent or myself,” he continued.

“There is nothing concrete at the moment and I can’t rule out an experience abroad at this moment in time.”

Ik ben trouwens wel benieuwd wat Cesena komend seizoen gaat doen. Het gaat denk ik erg zwaar worden, Novara zullen ze normaliter wel voorblijven, maar of dat ook voor de andere promovendi geldt is maar zeer de vraag.

Cesena unveil artificial pitch

After newly-promoted Novara, now Cesena have unveiled plans for a new synthetic pitch at the Stadio Manuzzi.

Novara are the only club in Serie A or B to have an artificial pitch, but the Sea Horses have announced they will follow suit.

“This playing surface will guarantee better conditions in any climate and allow us to use the field more regularly without being forced to go elsewhere for our winter training,” explained President Igor Campedelli.

“A pitch with an even surface will favour quicker and more quality football. My decision was also made by thinking of the technical team we are putting together.

“It was therefore not just a financial decision, but also a football one. We will play regularly and train without worrying about rain or snow any more.

“We’ll start work after the rugby match between Italy and Japan on August 13. The new pitch will be ready in September for the first home game.”

The field at the Stadio Manuzzi will also change shape, as it will remain 105m long, but go from 63.6m wide to 68m. This conforms with the Serie A standard.

Weather has caused a problem for the northern clubs in recent years and is also a financial burden, as the San Siro pitch is entirely replaced on average four times a year.

Cesena announce Candreva deal

Cesena have confirmed the capture of Italian international Antonio Candreva from Udinese.

The Sea Horses have been chasing the creative player for some weeks and a deal has finally been agreed.

The attacking midfielder, who can be used in any role across the midfield, has joined the outfit on loan.

At the end of the 2011-12 campaign, Cesena will then have the option to sign a 50 per cent share in the 24-year-old.

Candreva, formerly of Livorno and Juventus, spent last season on loan at Parma where he scored three League goals in 31 appearances.

He will join up with his new teammates later today at their pre-season training base at Acquapartita.

Je kan het ook omdraaien en stellen dat de ontwikkeling die Candreva maakt, nou niet echt is wat r ooit van hem verwacht werd.
Ik denk dat hij beter kan/kon maar in de bovenkamer gewoon geen top speler is en daarom blijft hangen.

Cesena heeft het momenteel buiten de selectie i.i.g. aardig voor elkaar:

Kunstgras mat gaat er z'n intrede doen in de Serie A (ook bij Novara trouwens) en daarnaast heeft men een clubrecord aantal abonnementen verkocht, ruim 12.000

Zo verrassend als de ploeg vorig seizoen startte (met o.a. een zege op Milan), zo matig is het nu.
2e seizoen in A is vaak nog zwaarder dan het 1e en Cesena kan wat dat betreft de borst echt nat maken.
