Na de overwinning in de play offs tegen Torino is Brescia na vijf jaar in de Serie B weer teruggekeerd in de Serie A. Onder leiding van Giuseppe Iachini mogen de Biancoazzurri gaan proberen om zich op het hoogste niveau te handhaven.

Clubgeschiedenis

The team was founded in 1911 as Brescia Football Club, joining the Terza Categoria division the same year. In 1913 Brescia was promoted to First Division for its first time ever, and from 1929 it played in Serie A for six of the seven following seasons. Successively, the club played among the two top divisions until 1982, when Brescia was relegated to Serie C1. The club then returned to Serie B in 1985. Brescia played outside the two national tournaments of Lega Calcio (A & B) only four years: under this aspect, only eleven clubs in all Italy marked a better performance. Brescia Calcio won the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1994, the biggest notable achievement in their entire history to date. However, Brescia actually came to the footballing forefront only in 2000, when the previously unfancied club signed former FIFA World Player of the Year Roberto Baggio, who led Brescia to a surprising seventh place in 2000/2001 Serie A, the best result during its time in Serie A, thus qualifying for the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Successively, Brescia reached the Intertoto Cup finals, then lost to Paris Saint-Germain for the away goals rule. Baggio spent four years at Brescia before retiring in 2004 and during those historic four years, Brescia became widely known as "Baggio's Brescia". During Baggio's four year spell with Brescia, Brescia recorded their best ever run of staying in Serie A. However, in the very next season that followed Baggio's retirement (2004/2005), Brescia were relegated from Serie A on the last day, finishing a lowly 19th. Brescia struggled for returning to top flight after the relegation and finally returned to Serie A after beating Torino with a 2-1 aggregate in 2009-10 season. Former Spanish captain and current Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola, the famous Romanian Gheorghe Hagi, Italy's national team striker Luca Toni, and current AC Milan star Andrea Pirlo (born in Brescia) have also spent time in Brescia.

Ga ze dit seizoen een beetje proberen te volgen, puur omdat Baggio er heeft gespeeld. Hopelijk gaan ze niet al te hard af, die selectie is zo op het eerste gezicht niet veel soeps. Raar dat Hamsik trouwens niet in dat wiki stukje staat.

Ik ben benieuwd hoe Brescia het gaat doen, naar de selectie kijkende zou je verwachten dat het nomaalgesproken bij 1 jaar blijft, maar als je dan hoort dat ze met Diamanti bezig zijn dan zijn er kennelijk toch mogelijkheden.

Eder clinches Brescia deal It is reported that Serie B Capocannoniere Eder has finally agreed his move to newly-promoted Brescia. Empoli had a deal with Brescia several weeks ago, but the Brazilian had hesitated amid suggestions of interest from Milan. “We are very close to an agreement,” agent Eugenio Ascari told Sky Sport Italia. “There was never any arrogance from the player, though, just as Brescia did not assume anything from him.” It’s reported that Eder will join Brescia in a co-ownership deal worth around €4m, although other sources suggest it’s a loan with the option to buy out half. He’ll put pen to paper on a five-year contract paying €750,000 per season. Eder is still only 23 and has been at Empoli since 2005, with a brief loan spell at Frosinone in 2008-09. Last season he topped the Capocannoniere charts in Serie B with an impressive 27 goals in 35 games.

Kezman naar Brescia?

Brescia to bid for Kezman Brescia are considering making a bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mateja Kezman in the January transfer window. The 31-year-old Serb is out of favour at the Parc des Princes, making just one appearance this season. Reports in Italy suggest Brescia will offer €2m for Kezman as part of their efforts to bolster their squad. Kezman has only scored four goals in the last three seasons and hasn't really been prolific since he left PSV Eindhoven in 2004.

Brescia President blasts Iachini Brescia President Gino Corioni has blasted his Coach Beppe Iachini for some of his choices. “He needs to wake up.” The Rondinelle were defeated 1-0 by Udinese in a very unlucky result, having dominated the match. “Iachini is an excellent Coach and I want to point that out from the start, but he needs to wake up when it comes to substitutions,” said the patron. “We attacked Udinese for the entire game, the pitch was in poor condition and some of the players were tired. “Yet we finished with the same XI that started. Kennelijk is er enige onrust ontstaan in Brescia, redelijk absurd als je bedenkt dat ze helemaal niet onaardig aan het siezoen begonnen zijn.

Brescia is de weg volledig kwijt, gaat een moeilijk seizoen worden zo. Dat is op zich natuurlijk niet gek voor een promovendus, maar gezien de heel behoorlijke start en het best aardige elftal is de zwakke reeks toch wel opvallend.

Napoli had met afstand meer balbezit en ook het beste van het spel, maar Brescia was wel enkele malen zeer dreigend, raakte paal en lat dus had ook zo anders kunnen aflopen.
Je kon wel merken dat Diamanti gemist werd.

Following his sensational goal against Juventus, Alessandro Diamanti confirms he’s “dreaming of the Nazionale.”

The Brescia star returned from a three-match ban for insulting the referee and scored a fantastic strike in last night’s 1-1 draw.

“I did practice that type of shot quite often in training and I won’t say that a normal goal came out of it,” smiled the former West Ham United man.

“At times it works out and at times it doesn’t.”

Diamanti said when he returned to Serie A that it was partly in order to improve his visibility for international duty.

“Cesare Prandelli makes his decisions, but I am dreaming of the Nazionale like every other Italian player.

“If it happens, then I’ll be happy. If not, I’ll just carry on.”

Brescia ‘had to sack Iachini’

Brescia sporting director Gianluca Nani insists that the dismissal of Coach Beppe Iachini earlier today was inevitable.

The Lombard outfit lost 3-0 at Milan on Saturday which extended their winless streak to 11 League games.

“We are saddened to lose him, but we had no other option,” said the official.

“Iachini is paying the price for the results which, up to a point, are what matter in football.

“It was a difficult decision to take because Iachini did some great work here and we recognise that.”

Brescia won three out of their first four games this term, but have collected just three points from the next available 33.

Mario Beretta, formerly of Siena and Lecce, is expected to soon be confirmed as the former midfielder’s replacement.
