Serie A rule change for non-EU buys

The FIGC has given the all-clear for Serie A clubs to sign two new non-EU players per season rather than one.

The limit had been put in place last summer after Italy’s dismal showing in the 2010 World Cup.

It was meant to encourage clubs to focus on homegrown talent rather than import players from outside the European Union.

The clubs had been pushing to have the rules changed back to their pre-2010 status and this has now happened.

The change takes immediate effect, so sides can operate on the transfer market by snapping up an extra non-EU player.

Problemen voor Inter en Viviano: De doelman heeft z'n kruisbanden serieus geblesseerd op training vandaag, kan wel eens het hele seizoen kosten (en voor Inter dus geen transfer mogelijk waar er vldoende belangstelling voor Viviano was).

Verder volgens de geruchten een naderend akkoord tussen Roma en PSG over een transfer van Menez, die weg mag (ook van Luis Enrique).

Milan heeft m.b.t. Montolivo volgens de geruchten een bod neergelegd bij Fiorentina van 5.5 miljoen plus 50% van de rechten op het contract van Paloschi.

Aquilani zou een flinke stap terug is salaris willen zetten om het mogelijk te maken uitgeleend te worden door Liverpool aan Fiorentina.

Genoa heeft ondertussen Milanetto verkocht aan FC Luzern in Zwitserland. Milanetto was altijd populair, totdat hij in de recente derby het aan de stok kreeg met eigen fans, die vervolgens eisten dat hij zou vertrekken. De clubleiding wenste anders maar Milanetto had er geen trek meer in en gaat dus z'n weg vervolgen in Zwitserland.

Volgens Spaanse media heeft Inter een bod uitgebracht van 15 miljoen voor Mata bij Valencia. Inter heeft concurrentie in deze van Arsenal (met name) & Juve

Juve en Villarreal zijn nog steeds niet rond m.b.t. Rossi. Dat komt omdat Juve target nr. 1, Aguero, naar City lijkt te gaan en Atletico, van die transfersom meer dan voldoende overhoudt om de vraagprijs van Rossi (30 miljoen) te voldoen.

Giovani Dos Santos zou voor ca. 10 miljoen de vervanger moeten worden van Sanchez bij Udinese.

Police 'did hear Inter Calciopoli calls'

Luciano Moggi’s lawyers claim police did originally mark Inter’s wiretaps for further investigation, but they were ignored in the Calciopoli trial.

These phone calls featuring then-President Giacinto Facchetti were deemed to violate Article 6, the clause regarding Sporting Fraud, by the FIGC Disciplinary Commission this month, but Inter could not be punished due to the statute of limitations.

Moggi’s lawyers now claim they have examined the original files and discovered police did mark the Inter wiretaps with the same ‘triple red’ mark as the Juventus calls back in 2006.

“It’s a shocking discovery,” lawyer Maurilio Prioreschi told Tuttosport. “The marks used to differentiate the files are very clear. However, someone told the police to provide transcripts of those calls and opted to leave out the Inter ones, so these never reached the public prosecutor.

“The truth is that the real Calciopoli inquiry is being performed by Moggi’s legal team and it will be a complete investigation. The CD-ROMs we requested are providing some remarkable answers.

“It is clear there was a filter in information that goes from the bottom to the very top of the investigation. Those wiretapped calls did not disappear. They were listened to and evaluated.

“Someone at a superior level did not request certain ‘valuable’ calls be transcribed. Had they been transcribed, they would’ve reached the prosecutor in time for the sporting trial that brought down Juve, hurt Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio.

“It would’ve made a huge difference, because that trial spoke about an exclusive association of clubs acting in a certain way. These calls prove that was not the case.

“When the civil Calciopoli trial resumes on September 27, I will request a new police investigation. We need someone to explain what happened and if a crime was committed.”

De Laurentiis storms out! Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis furiously stormed out of the Serie A draw. “I am ashamed to be Italian! I’m going back to cinema.” The patron had hoped his team would not have difficult fixtures close to the Champions League games. After only a few fixtures had been revealed by the computer, De Laurentiis reacted very angrily. He swore at the gathered Serie A club Presidents, FIGC members and media in the Lega hall as he walked away. “It’s all been mapped out against us,” he blasted. “Enough is enough, I’m going back to cinema. “I’m ashamed to be Italian! I want to change citizenship!” Napoli will face Milan in Week 3, which is just four days after their Champions League debut. They’ll also face Inter in Week 6, only three days after the second round of the group phase. De Laurentiis has long been a vocal critic of the football world, having taken over Napoli in Serie C after their bankruptcy. He is most famous as part of one of the world’s biggest movie producer dynasties. In a truly bizarre detail, it's reported De Laurentiis was so eager to get away from the Lega hall that he asked for a lift from a passing teenager on a scooter.

Betting: FIGC hits Atalanta hard The FIGC prosecutor has requested Atalanta be docked seven points this season and captain Cristiano Doni banned for 42 months in the betting scandal. The investigation has been completed into allegations of illegal betting and attempts to fix results. Prosecutor Stefano Palazzi stated his requests to the Disciplinary Commission today. They include for Atalanta to start the new Serie A season from -7 points with captain Doni to be banned for three years and six months and teammate Thomas Manfredini for three years. Ascoli would begin the Serie B campaign from -6 plus pay a €90,000 fine. Most of the accused clubs are in Lega Pro or the amateur Leagues, with Alessandria potentially relegated, Benevento start from -14 and Cremonese -9. Former Lazio and Italy star Giuseppe Signori has always denied being one of the leaders of this illegal betting operation, but the FIGC requested he be barred for life from football. He is currently registered as a Coach, albeit out of work. Players Bellavista, Paoloni, Sommese, Gervasoni and Bressan would be suspended for five years, plus Quadrini for one year. Meanwhile, Chievo and several players have cut a plea bargain with the prosecutor before today’s summing up. Chievo will pay a fine of €80,000 despite the fact Stefano Bettarini never actually played for the club. Bettarini, who is now retired, accepted a ban of 14 months, while Ascoli’s Micolucci was suspended for 14 months after agreeing to collaborate with the investigation. The five-man Disciplinary Commission will now look at the evidence and prosecutor’s recommendations. An initial verdict could arrive as early as Monday.
